About the JobWe are seeking a highly skilled Sanitation Specialist to join our team in the African Water Facility (AWF). This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a difference in the water and sanitation sector.
About the RoleThe Sanitation Specialist will play a critical role in supporting the management of the AWF's growing sanitation portfolio. You will be responsible for developing the portfolio in line with the AWF strategy, supervising the sanitation portfolio, and developing knowledge products to disseminate the AWF's impact and lessons learned.
You will also undertake various activities, including supervising AWF's sanitation portfolio, leading thematic project identification and preparation, recruiting consultants, and ensuring that grant agreements are signed promptly after approval.
Key Responsibilities- Develop the AWF portfolio in line with the AWF strategy through identifying projects and conducting dialogue with governments, river basin organisations, local governments, utilities, private sector and NGOs, among others.
- Supervise AWF's sanitation portfolio ensuring that project objectives are met particularly with regard to financing of follow-up investments.
- Develop knowledge products to disseminate AWF's impact and lessons learnt.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Sanitation and Hygiene, or related discipline. You will also need to have at least 6 years of relevant experience related to project management, sanitation policy and strategy development, preparation and management of non-sewered sanitation and reuse projects preferably in urban and peri-urban settings.
You will also need to have excellent communication skills and ability to build effective working relationships in a diverse multicultural environment. Experience with International Development Financing Institutions in developing countries including a satisfactory knowledge of their operational policies and procedures is desirable.
