Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Global Credit Risk Management Expert to join our team at the African Development Bank. As a Senior Commercial Credit Officer, you will be responsible for assessing non-sovereign credit risks, developing policies and guidelines, and ensuring internal consistency of all credit risk management policies and guidelines.
About the Role
This role is part of the Group Risk Management Function (PGRF), which develops policies and guidelines, methodologies, and systems relating to credit risk assessment, market risk, and operational risk. Your key objectives will include:
- Ensuring adequate assessment of credit risk of new non-sovereign operations and regular review of the Bank's non-sovereign credit portfolio
- Developing policies and guidelines, methodologies, and systems relating to non-sovereign credit risk assessment and management
- Monitoring and reporting on compliance with policies and guidelines
- Contributing to the development of strategic risk metrics and a risk culture within the organization
- Ensuring the functioning of the Credit Risk Committee Secretariat
Responsibilities
You will perform the following tasks under the supervision and guidance of the Unit Head PGRF1:
- Assess non-sovereign credit risks by preparing Summary Credit Notes, advising appropriate credit risk ratings, and making recommendations for individual transactions
- Regularly reviewing existing transactions and their credit ratings and adequacy of impairment provisions
- Assessing specific risks of proposed individual non-sovereign transactions and recommending credit enhancement or risk mitigation measures
- Advising operations departments on transaction structuring to mitigate risk
- Participating in due diligence missions and supervision missions on active projects
- Advising pricing terms in consultation with syndication and investment officers
- Developing and updating commercial credit risk management policies, guidelines, processes, and procedures
- Participating in portfolio monitoring and reporting
- Preparing technical notes and conducting studies on commercial credit risk and related issues
- Participating in risk-related discussions and management review committees
- Serving as a technical focal point for risk culture and interacting with Internal and External Auditors and Rating Agencies
- Participating in the functioning of the Credit Risk Committee (CRC) Secretariat
Competencies
To succeed in this role, you must have:
- A Master's degree or equivalent in Risk Management, International Finance, Economics, or a related field
- At least 5 years of work experience in credit assessment in private sector banking or multilateral development banking
- Hands-on experience in credit risk assessment, deal negotiation, and structuring in emerging and underdeveloped markets
- Familiarity with project finance, corporate lending, lending to financial institutions, and private equity funds
- Ability to build risk tools and methodologies
- Knowledge of capital adequacy standards
- Considerable knowledge and experience of credit risk management techniques, sophisticated risk management products, and risk management best practice
- High degree of personal commitment, interpersonal skills, clear strategic vision, proven communication and leadership skills
- Teamwork and relationships: Works with others to maximize the effectiveness of the team as a whole, sharing knowledge and workload

- Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) in English or French, preferably with a working knowledge of the other
- Competence in the use of standard Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point); knowledge of SAP (or other integrated document management system or quantitative and qualitative data analysis packages is an added advantage)
Salary
The estimated salary range for this position is $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. The Bank offers a comprehensive compensation package, including a housing allowance, transportation allowance, and access to a wide range of benefits, including health insurance, pension plan, and paid time off.
