Abidjan, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire UN Women Temps plein
As part of its country program for the period , UN Women aligns with Côte d'Ivoire's priorities set out in the National Development Plan (PND This plan, which adopts an organized, proactive and inclusive approach, aims to position Côte d'Ivoire as a middle-income country by the end of the decade.

The country's ten-year strategy targets a structural transformation of its economy, aiming to accelerate the development of Ivorian society in an inclusive manner, by placing men and women at the heart of this process, as main actors and beneficiaries.

Since 2014, UN Women Côte d'Ivoire has supported the efforts of the Ivorian government, with particular emphasis on women's economic empowerment.

Working in close collaboration with the government, the private sector, NGOs, and various technical and financial partners, including the African Development Bank (AfDB), UN Women initiates and implements projects that promote the economic empowerment of women.

These initiatives cover key sectors such as climate-resilient agriculture and women's entrepreneurship.

In this context, the United Nations Volunteer (UNV) will work specifically on food security initiatives.

By integrating gender perspectives, the UNV will strive to respond to the specific needs of women and girls in the face of increasing food insecurity.

This approach is part of UN Women's overall objective of promoting gender equality and supporting sustainable and inclusive development in Côte d'Ivoire.

Under the direct supervision of the National Programme Manager, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

1) Conduct food security assessments to identify gender disparities and formulate policy recommendations that ensure women and men have equitable access to resources, assistance and opportunities in this area.
2) Support the development and implementation of emergency food assistance programs, ensuring that interventions effectively target the specific needs of women and girls and contribute to their economic empowerment in the agricultural and eating
3) Strengthen the capacities of local partners, including government, NGOs, and the private sector, to integrate gender considerations into agricultural practices and food value chains, thereby promoting production and distribution methods that support gender equality and food security.
4) Contribute to the development and adjustment of national food security policies and strategies, ensuring that gender equality is a central dimension, and that women actively participate as key actors in the fight against food insecurity.
5) Facilitating access to credit and financial resources for women farmers and entrepreneurs, in collaboration with financial institutions and development partners to design financial products adapted to the needs of women.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activ-ities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
