PLANT MANAGER
- Purpose
Reporting to the General Manager, the Process Manager is responsible to manage the Processing team - delivering metallurgical, laboratory, and process control engineering support and input to the overall operations. The manager is also responsible to develop and implement technical support strategies that ensures the process departments ability to meet operational objectives. Develop strategic plans to ensure that production is maximised from the operation and that long term goals are met. Also, evaluate and implement improvement projects for the process plant that enhance safety and performance of equipment and processes.
- Key Accountabilities
Technical Accountabilities
- Manage / accountable for the metallurgical input into the process plant operation, technical improvements, future development and equipment performance
- Manage / accountable for the process control system operation, improvement programs, system reliability, development and change management systems (including the development of expert control systems).
- Manage Process Optimisation projects to ramp up and maintain cost effective production rates to support the life-of-mine business plan
- Manage the technical aspects of the ore processing facility from primary crushing to residue disposal and concentrate shipment.
- Management of the process laboratory, testing and reporting of results in line with standard operating procedures and recognised standards.
- Management of concentrate shipment sampling and assaying requirements to ensure that concentrate stocks are realised to maximise sales
- Manage technical input and audits for Environmental compliance and technical input into International Cyanide Code, stack monitoring and other compliance.
- Compliance in managing chemical registers for laboratory, process operations.
Functional Planning /Scheduling
- The development of support plans and goals for the business unit from a strategic focus, given operational and capital budgeting constraints.
- Responsible for input into the strategic planning process for the business unit.
Budget Preparation / Cost Management Control
- Accountable for budgeting of the Processing department, and provide assistance with the development of process operations budgeting including power, reagent and consumable consumptions, contract and consultant requirements
- Take responsibility for monitoring and control of operations and capital budgets to ensure compliance with fiscal policy.
- Monitor and control key drivers and costs through interrogation of financial reports on a weekly and monthly basis. Report and provide detailed submissions on variance to management and identify improvement opportunities.
- Be accountable for approval of purchases and expenditure within delegated limits of authority.
Reporting
- Ensure that all reporting is in accordance with required standard and is completed and distributed on time.
- Ensure all corrective actions allocated to and accepted by the Process team are completed by the due date.
Staff Management
- Ensure staff resources are efficiently deployed and staff members undertake appropriate training and development so to meet the needs of the business.
- Build, maintain and improve teamwork participation so that employees understand their role, what is expected on them, and how the team is performing.
- Overview, provide direction and act as a technical reference point and mentor for staff while ensuring work outputs are in line with strategic plans and budgets.
- Be responsible for implementing and monitoring performance and development plans for all direct reports.
- Initiate disciplinary action or reward recognition for staff under direct supervision within the work unit.
- Promote, comply with, and demonstrate leadership with respect to OH&S, Environmental and Community Relations Policies, Standards and Procedures.
- Take responsibility for the attraction, retention and development of the metallurgical services team of professional staff.
- Communicate effectively with the Process Maintenance, Operations and Engineering groups to ensure that key performance targets are met.
Compliance/Quality Control
- Promote and adhere to appropriate internal methodologies, policies, procedures and standards.
- Consistently maintain a high quality of work across all allocated functions.
- Interpret legislation, government standards and agreements.
- Provide input/informed commentary on improvement opportunities and areas of risk to management.
- Be accountable for the quality of work output delivered by the Technical Services Team.
- Ensure there is thorough and systematic monitoring and audit processes across all processing, maintenance and engineering activities.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements as well as Company Policy, Standards, and Procedures through training and development of staff and promoting by example.
Contractor Management
- Ensure required documentation is obtained from contractors including but not limited to, procedures, certificates of competency, licenses, permits, certificates of calibration or testing, (MSDS) etc.
- Ensure contractors complete required general & work area inductions associated with their scope of contracted work.
Safety Management
- Demonstrate personal commitment in regard to safety and environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
- Ensure no accidents take place and proper reporting and corrective actions for the reported accidents
- Ensure every person within team is fit for work.
- Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used.
- Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures
- Ensure hazard management plans are observed.
- Keep statutory and internal reporting as required.
- Active participation to the Health & Safety Committee.

3. Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related
field. Advanced degree preferred.
Relevant experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Superintendent/Manager in a milling/processing environment, preferably in large mining operations.
- Minimum of 10 years total experience in mineral processing environment.
- Innovative individual with well-developed time management and people management skills.
- Capable of managing a professional team for a very large and complex processing plant.
- Excellent understanding of the mining industry, industry practices, regulations and technical advancements.
- Adherence to the highest ethical standards, demonstrating accountability, integrity and transparency in actions at all times.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety.
- Demonstrated understanding of risk analysis.
- Knowledge of business and management principles, time management and problem solving.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, remaining on track and compensating for variances.
- Vision to perceive risks and opportunities with superior decision-making ability to act on these accordingly.
- French language skills are essential.
- Experience in a third world country with a preference for West African experience.
- Experience working in multicultural environment.
- Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and build effective relationships and networks.
- Possesses strong training and mentoring skills with the ability to develop an effective team.
- Ability to respond to a changing work environment.
- A reputation for integrity and ethics.
