PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE
The purpose of Environmental Superintendent's role is to develop and implement effective Environmental Management System, while ensuring regulatory compliance and aiming towards industry best practice.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Leadership

• Builds a competent environmental staff through recruitment and development efforts
• Elaborate and maintain the environmental budget

• Maintains a positive and productive working relationship with the community and environmental agencies

• Provides training to environmental department and personnel on key environmental issues, environmental requirements and compliance

Management System

• Identify, develop and implement environmental management system in collaboration with the HSE Manager.

• Ensure the HSE management system is stream-lined across site and documentation is controlled and available to all personnel.

• Preparation of environmental reports and tracking department performance against environmental key performances indicators and targets.

• Maintain the ISO14001 standards by effectively monitoring key areas and conducting audits on a regular basis.

• Maintain an effective administration system, ensuring that all environmental checks is recorded and records maintained as per environmental system requirements.

Legislation, Standards Compliance

• Identify all areas of legislative requirements for Environment.

• Implement actions to ensure compliance.

• Strive for best practice environmental management.

• Provide guidance to all people within the company regarding Environmental issues

Communication and Community Engagement

• Maintain a positive, open and transparent relationship with all members of the community.

• Feedback community concerns to mine management and assist with follow up actions.

• Maintain database of all communications with stakeholders

Monitoring & Review

• Management of all environmental monitoring programs.

• Review and analysis of data from monitoring programs.

• Timely reporting of information from programs.

Reporting

• Performs statistical analysis, prepares reports, maintains appropriate compliance records and files required documents with various regulatory agencies within stated deadlines.

• Ensure compliance of the incident investigation and reporting procedure.

• Ensure timely completion of all required government reports. Submission of reports to be done according to company policy

Documentation

• Ensure all documentation is kept in accordance with relevant document control procedures.

Continuous Improvement

• Review monitoring information.

• Conduct audits of departmental areas.

• Comparison of site management plans with international best practice

Communication

• Ensure open and transparent communication with HSE team, other departments and external agencies.

• Ensure all communication with external stakeholders is in accordance with company procedure.

Workplace Health & Safety

• Comply with all OH&S standards and requirements.

• Report all hazards and unsafe acts.

• Actively participating in OH&S activities

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Education:

• Master's degree or higher in QHSE management

• Certified HSE professional appreciated

Relevant Experience:

• At least 7 years of experience in management positions in the field of QHSE

• Minimum 5 years of experience in the mining industry

• Good working knowledge of French and English

• Experience working effectively within a management team

• Experience working with Microsoft Excel and Word

• Good knowledge of local law

• Experience working in a multi-cultural environment

• Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and build effective relationships and networks.

• Have a reputation for integrity and ethics
